Ok Firmware update process MUCH improved!!

I completed the firmware update--what a smooth process!!! normally with firmware updates all my applications are left uninstalled, and the phone is reset the factory settings. I bascially waste an entire afternoon reinstalling everything. THIS time, with the n81 firmware update, all my applications were left untouched, all my settings were left untouched. The phone literally fashed a couple times with some diagnostic information, then restarted, and i could immediately use my phone thereafter. no application re-install!!!! GREAT JOB NOKIA! this was a very badly needed enhacement to the firmware update process. The entire process took about 10 minutes.

As far improvements to the phone, i'm noticing that the scroll wheel is MUCH smoother. before it was kind of jerky and took a little while to respond. now it is like using an ipod, instant response and very quick scrolling. As far as other enhancements, i haven't really noticed anything out of the ordinary. the phone still seems just as quick and responsive as before, so i can't say for sure if there were any performance impacts (good or bad) with this firmware update. I read that there were some WLAN enhancements, but i never had an issue with WLAN, so i'm not sure if those would impact me.

anyways, BIG thumbs up for the firmware update!!! the most improved part of the firmware update is the actual firmware update process itself. finally, nokia has listened to us and gone are the painful application reinstalls and phone reconfigurations that will eat up the better part of your afternoon. I'm already looking forward to the next time i need to update my firmware.

not exactly sure where i can find the product code, mine came from Hong Kong (asian variant), but when I type *#0000#, I see the following:

V 10.0.058 (new firmware version)
12-10-07
RM-179
(c) Nokia N81 (14.01)

The product code (the code you have to enter in NSU to see if you need an update) is located under the battery.

Yves

Hello Hassan

Am I right in assuming yours is an USA supplied English only phone?

If so, is it G3 compatible?

I want to buy one but they're not yet available in Australia but if your product number is good, then I can buy one from Hong Kong, change the product number to your number and upgrade the firmware.

Thanks

Darryl
